Frequently Asked

How long do you test each product?

At least four weeks of daily work. Keyboards usually get six, desks ten, because the faults that matter (stabiliser rattle, frame wobble, firmware bugs) tend to appear late.

Do brands pay for reviews?

No. Most hardware is bought at retail. Loaned units are disclosed in the report and returned afterwards, and no brand sees a verdict before it is published.

Which switch type is best for an office or home office?

Light linear or tactile switches, around 45 g. Clicky switches are fun on your own and a problem on calls or in shared rooms. See the keyboard report.

Is hot-swap worth paying for?

For most people, yes. A failed or scratchy switch becomes a two-minute fix with a puller, rather than a return or a soldering job, and you can try different switches without buying a new board.

Is a Raspberry Pi 5 good enough as a desktop?

For browsing, writing and light coding, yes, if you add NVMe storage, the official 27 W supply and active cooling. For heavy browser use, video editing or big builds, a used x86 mini PC is the better buy.

Do I need a 4K monitor for coding?

Not necessarily. A 27-inch 1440p screen (about 109 PPI) is comfortable on Windows. 4K at 27 inches (about 163 PPI) is visibly sharper for text and suits macOS scaling better.

Is OLED burn-in still a problem?

The risk is lower than it used to be, but it is not zero. Leave the panel's pixel-refresh features on, hide static taskbars, and avoid running static work at maximum brightness for long periods.

How high should my desk and monitor be?

Elbows at about 90 degrees with your forearms level to the keyboard, and the top of the screen at or slightly below eye level, about an arm's length away. Details are in the setups report.

Can I send you gear to test?

You can suggest it via Write In. We do not guarantee coverage. Any loaned unit is returned and disclosed, and the maker gets no say over the verdict.

Do you use affiliate links?

No. Virelloboardtall does not currently use affiliate links. If that ever changes, every affected page will say so clearly at the top.
